Deputies from Rio de Janeiro who are part of left-wing parties made a statement this Wednesday (29) in the Chamber in which they called it a “slaughter” and “massacre”.
The parliamentarians stated that they will adopt actions such as representation in the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) and going to the favelas targeted by police action by the management of (). The governor was the main target of the deputies, who was called a “serial killer” by Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ).
The action in the Alemão and Penha complexes, in the north of Brazil, was the most lethal in the country involving police officers, according to the executive director of the Brazilian Public Security Forum, Samira Bueno. The official count as of Wednesday afternoon was , with 4 police officers.
“What happened in Rio de Janeiro we are characterizing as a continued massacre. We know the favela communities, we know very well that in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro what we have there are the majority of people, working people, people who carry the economy of the city of the state on their shoulders”, said deputy Reimont (PT-RJ), president of the Chamber’s Human Rights Commission.
He stated that the commission and left-wing deputies will make an incursion this Thursday (30) into Complexo do Alemão and the Legal Medical Institute.
Representative Dandara (PT-MG) stated that the black bench will represent the PGR questioning the legality of the operation. The bench also asked for the preservation of any camera footage on police uniforms.
“This governor’s attitude is criminal. He lied from beginning to end. The federal government’s action will be in the opposite direction to theirs. It is an intelligence, investigation task force. Doing as was done in Operation Hidden Carbon, where the entire criminal scheme was disrupted, people linked to the financial market were affected”, said the leader of the PT bench, Lindbergh Farias (RJ).
“The most dangerous criminal in the state of Rio de Janeiro is free, giving an interview and sitting in the governor’s chair, at the Guanabara Palace. Serial killer, cold, calculating, who is doing this to try to secure a senator’s seat where he can shield himself from the series of corruption cases involving his administration”, said Glauber Braga.
Deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) stated that he saw a denial of life and civility in supporting the police operation.
“This is not the first massacre. They have all led to nothing in terms of improvement, of social programs, in the affected communities.”
“There is a logic of massacre, what was done in Rio de Janeiro, a slaughter, which has a mark of criminalization of poverty, the favela, the periphery. And it is up to the people of Rio de Janeiro to say this. This does not produce order, this produces chaos”, said deputy Pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ).
The Bolsonaro bench in the Chamber defended the operation and the governor of Rio. “More criminals should have died”, said deputy Delegado Caveira (PL-PA) in a speech in the Chamber plenary.
