Oliver († 12) from Great Britain became a victim of a dangerous internet trend. According to the information of the portal, he inhaled the vapors of a commonly used cosmetic product, which became fatal. Despite the great efforts of the doctors, it was not possible to save him.
A seventh grader decided to try a dangerous challenge on TikTok, which consists in inhaling vapors from aerosol products in order to induce a short-term state of intoxication. The boy chose deodorant for this purpose. “I don’t know if my son did it to escape from something. As a mother, this loss hurts me a lot,” stated a devastated Clare.
According to her statements, the whole family came back from vacation and Oliver went to his room because he was tired. Later, she went to check on him, but she couldn’t handle him anymore. Trying to revive him, she shook him when an empty bottle of Lynx deodorant suddenly fell from the bed. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The coroner, after performing an autopsy, confirmed that the child died from butane inhalation. His parents finally found him in his room five empty bottles of aerosol products. A distraught mother admitted that her son struggled in high school and became withdrawn. He even had to reveal to his elder brother that he was facing unpleasant insults.
The whole case is currently being investigated by Detective Inspector Ian Parker, who has already obtained some evidence from the technology the schoolboy was using. Based on his findings, it appears that Oliver was likely a victim of bullying. “My impression is that these are words, very harsh words aimed at his appearance or physical attributes,” he described with an air of mystery.
The detective also commented on the dangerous activity known as “Chroming” or “Huffing” on social networks, in which people abuse aerosols. “I was aware that this was something that appeared on TikTok. I know that for some reason people are demonstrating this practice and sharing it on this platform.” stated with a warning that inhaling butane can cause fatal heart complications.
Oliver’s family has since launched a campaign called Oliver’s Awareness, which focuses on the dangers of aerosols, bullying and cyberbullying. “He only had 20 minutes in his room and he was gone. I didn’t know it could kill so quickly…just don’t buy them.” she bequeathed to all the people. However, it is not yet clear whether he really wanted to commit suicide, or if he succumbed to a dangerous trend that helped him escape from difficult times at school for a while.
