Polish airports in Radom and Lublin temporarily suspended operations. The army is responding to possible threats in Ukraine and limiting operations in the eastern airspace.
Airports in the Polish cities of Radom and Lublin temporarily suspended operations on Thursday at the request of the army. The command of the Polish armed forces previously reported that Polish and allied troops are on alert for Russian attacks on targets in neighboring Ukraine. TASR writes about it according to the Reuters agency.
“At the request of the military, the Polish Air Navigation Agency has introduced a regulation introducing restrictions in Polish airspace, as well as the temporary closure of two airports in Radom and Lublin,” agency spokesman Marcin Hadaj told private TV station TVN24.
Airspace restrictions
According to him, certain restrictions apply in the eastern part of Poland, and planes in Polish airspace must avoid this area. Hadaj added that airports could be closed “for about an hour”, with the final decision up to the military.
Reuters reminds that the countries on the eastern wing of NATO have been on high alert since September after the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones. Since then, NATO has registered dozens of other incidents in Scandinavia, Belgium and the Baltic countries.
On Tuesday, Polish planes intercepted a Russian plane without a flight plan and with the transponder turned off during a reconnaissance mission in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
