Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea

Polish MiG-29 fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea, while the incident happened a day after a similar situation, Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

Polish MiG-29 fighter jets intercepted another Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea on Thursday. This was announced by the Minister of Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to whom it is a continuation of recurring incidents in the area. The Warsaw correspondent TASR reports on this according to the PAP agency.

During his visit to Kartuzy, the Minister of Defense stated that the seizure took place on Thursday morning, a day after a similar incident. “Today, MiG-29s intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, just like yesterday,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said. He emphasized that the threat to Poland comes from the east, from the Russian Federation, and criticized politicians who, according to him, weaken Poland’s interests with their statements against Germany or Ukraine.

Air Force response

On Thursday, the Polish operational command informed Nadran about the activation of all available air forces in response to Russian attacks against targets in Ukraine. Fighters, early warning aircraft and air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were put on alert. The operation ended shortly after ten o’clock.

The operational command already confirmed on Wednesday that Polish MiG-29 intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft of the Il-20 type, which was moving in the international airspace over the Baltic Sea without a flight plan and with the transponder turned off. No violation of Polish airspace was recorded.
