President Lula spoke, on Wednesday night (29), about the mega-operation against drug trafficking in the Penha and Alemão complexes, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. To date, 121 deaths have been recorded, including four police officers.
In a text published on the president’s social networks, he calls for coordinated work against drug trafficking, mentions the operation against , carried out in August this year, and asks for the protection of families, police officers and children in operations.
“I met this morning with ministers from my government and ordered the Minister of Justice and the director general of the Federal Police to go to Rio to meet with the governor,” wrote the president.
“We cannot accept that organized crime continues to destroy families, oppress residents and spread drugs and violence throughout cities. We need coordinated work that reaches the backbone of trafficking without putting police officers, children and innocent families at risk”, he continued.
“That’s exactly what we did in August in the biggest operation against organized crime in the country’s history, which reached the financial heart of a large gang involved in drug sales, fuel adulteration and money laundering,” he said.
Finally, the president once again defended the approval of , which will allow the federal government to have more participation in state actions against organized crime.
“With the approval of the Security PEC, which we forwarded to the National Congress, we will ensure that the different police forces act jointly in confronting criminal factions”, he concluded.
