The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, reinforced this Thursday, the 30th, that the federal government had no participation in the mega-operation in Rio de Janeiro. He said, however, that he received information in Rio that the operation was “long planned, for months”.
“As soon as he landed (from Malaysia), he asked for a meeting to find out the facts. We found ourselves faced with a fait accompli. I learned, in RJ, that it was a long-planned operation, for months, but it is the exclusive responsibility of the local authorities. We had no participation or interference in this operation. Especially because there was predominantly local interest. It concerned around 300 search and seizure and arrest warrants issued by the local court in Rio de Janeiro”, he said, in an interview with GloboNews.
Lewandowski commented on the statement made by the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, that Rio police officers had spoken to members of the Federal Police Superintendency of Rio de Janeiro about the operation. He said that, when Rodrigues spoke about the case, he added some information.

“We have a degree of collaboration and identity with the current director general of the Federal Police that is very intimate. I felt obliged and quite comfortable to complement Andrei Rodrigues’ information. He correctly explained what happened, what is common in the police, what will or will not happen”, he reported.
“But what I wanted to add is that, if it were the state government’s intention or desire to ask for the federal government’s participation in an operation of such magnitude, it is clear that the communication would not be at the third level level, but in an official way, at the appropriate levels”, he added.
