The AgriBiz: At COP30, AgriZone will highlight sustainable technologies in agriculture

COP30, which begins on November 10, in Belém (PA), will have an important novelty in relation to other editions of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change: an area called AgriZone, dedicated to highlighting sustainable technologies behind the Brazilian model of agricultural production.

Promoted by Embrapa, AgriZone will join the traditional Blue Zone — a restricted area for negotiations between country delegations — and the Green Zone, focused on connections and open to the public.

The space will be based at Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, a unit with 3 thousand hectares of green area located two kilometers from the Blue Zone.

In practice, it will serve as a hub to bring together public and private entities and companies linked to agribusiness in debates and other events.

The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA), for example, an entity that represents 5 million producers in the country, will be at AgriZone. And the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, will dispatch from there during COP30.

The debates cover topics such as adapting agriculture to climate change, food security and sovereignty, bioeconomy and circular economy, gender, climate justice, forest and climate, low-carbon agriculture, single health, digital technologies and cooperativism, among others.

The idea is that the site will serve as a showcase for low-carbon initiatives and for establishing partnerships between universities, private and public companies and international organizations and Brazilian government ministries. According to Embrapa, there will be more than 400 technical activities over the 11 days of the event, highlighting 45 new cultivars and 30 sustainable agricultural systems.

The location will also be the stage for the launch of programs, such as Carne de Baixo Carbono and the Plataforma Saúde do Solo BR, in addition to the signing of a cooperation agreement with IICA (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation for Agriculture) for the installation of an Embrapa office in Costa Rica.

“Space reinforces the message that innovation is the way to feed the world and protect the planet”, explains the president of Embrapa, Silvia Massruhá.

AgriZone will be open to the public from November 10th to 21st, from 10am to 6pm, with free entry if you register online or on site.
