Dutch right-wing leader Geert Wilders said on the X social network on Friday that in early parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, there were irregularities in the counting of votes. Regarding his claims, which he published after the social liberal party D66 became the winner of the election, however he did not present evidence other than text messages from alleged witnesses to the irregularities. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
According to the local news agency ANP, the social liberal party D66 she only narrowly won in front of Wilders’ anti-immigration Party for Freedom (PVV). D66 leader Rob Jetten could therefore become the new prime minister. Wilders na X published a screenshot showing a message allegedly coming from a person who was involved in organizing elections in one of the precincts in Maastricht. It is said that an urn was brought here from another district, and when someone pointed it out, that’s it 132 tickets were selected and declared invalid. Another report claims that in the town of Zaanstad 15 ballot boxes disappeared.
“From all corners of the country such reports are pouring in,” Wilders said. “I don’t know if it’s true, but it would be good if they investigated,” he added. He then published another report suggesting that the head of a company that provided election software had ties to D66. “Is this news true?” asked Wilders.
According to the Electoral Commission’s website, HackDefense tested election software in 2021 and 2023, when Wilders won the most votes. For last year’s elections to the European Parliament and this week’s parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, another company was chosen – Fox-IT. The council stated that Fox-IT found no serious security flaws in the software.
AFP informs that it is still necessary to count one electoral district and votes from abroad, however Jetten has a lead of 15,155 votes over Wilders and his party. The Electoral Commission plans to release the official results in a week on Friday.
