Starting this Saturday (1st), indebted consumers will be able to renegotiate outstanding amounts with special conditions in the Negotiation and Financial Guidance Task Force promoted by Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), in partnership with the Central Bank.

The action involves the participation of more than 160 financial institutions.

Can be negotiated outstanding credit card debt, special check, consigned credit and other types of credit contracted with banks and financial institutions, as long as they do not involve assets given as collateral (such as vehicles or real estate) and are not prescribed.

During the collective effort, participating banks offer options such as installment, discounts on the value of the debt or reduced interest rates for refinancing, according to your credit policies. The initiative runs until November 30th.

In 2024, almost 3.5 million outstanding contracts were renegotiated under special conditions. In the first edition of 2025, held in March, more than 1.4 million contracts were renegotiated.

“Banks are committed to offering special conditions for arrears debt negotiation and contribute to the consumer’s financial recovery. The national mobilization allows consumers to plan how much debt they have in arrears and how much money is left to negotiate with the creditor institution. It also brings relevant financial guidance content”, says Amaury Oliva, director of Financial Citizenship and Consumer Relations at Febraban.

Joint effort rules

Which debts can be negotiated?

  • credit card
  • special check
  • Personal loan
  • Consigned credit
  • Other types of bank credit, as long as they are in arrears, without guarantee and not prescribed

Which debts cannot be negotiated?

  • Debts with assets given as collateral (such as vehicles and real estate)
  • Prescribed debts
  • Contracts with up-to-date installments

I have many different debts. Can I negotiate? Yes. If you are able to take on the installments, it is possible to open negotiations with different banks and financial institutions. However, the collective effort is not recommended for consumers protected by the Over-Indebtedness Law. In these cases, the recommendation is to seek Procon for guidance.

How to renegotiate

The conditions offered by financial institutions are standardized, regardless of the channel chosen. Negotiations can be made:

  • Directly with the bank or financial institution, through official channels
  • Through the Consumidor.gov.br portal, with a Silver or Gold account

When you get in touch, state that you wish to participate in the Febraban Mutirão, detail the debt you wish to pay off and request the available conditions (discounts, deadlines, fees). If you agree, ask to formalize the negotiation agreement.
