An 'ingenious' phrase and a diplomatic fire: what the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson in Italy has caused

Things have also happened outside of Spain this Monday, November 3, although national politics tries to make it difficult for us to look beyond. Due to shock and considerable loss of assets, Roma has been in the news for partial collapse of a medieval tower.

The affected structure is Tower of the Counts of Romeof some 30 metros currently and raised in the 13th centurynear the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. This historic building, which once measured around 50 meters, has suffered two partial collapses during remodeling works. The fall of part of its structure has caused several injuredone of which has remained buried under rubble.

In the area, the authorities are working to secure the workers and the structure of the column itself, whose partial collapse has caused a great social upheaval inside and outside Italy.

Interest has reached the Kremlin. At the heart of Vladimir Putin’s Government, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharovahas provoked a surprising diplomatic fire for what it considered a witty metaphor hours after the architectural mishap.

Zajárova, voice of Russian (non) diplomacy, has gone so far as to ironically say that just as the tower has collapsed, “the Italian economy will also collapsedue to the support of the Giorgia Meloni Government for Ukraine.

Needless to say, Zakharova’s comment, a common inflammatory statement, has not gone down well in Rome. Shortly after these words, the Transalpine Foreign Ministry decided summon the Russian ambassador, Alexwy Paramonovto transfer a formal protestas reported by EFE.

The clash is not entirely new. In recent months, the two countries have had their ups and downs, always with Italian support for Ukraine as the axis of the diplomatic confrontation. Not in vain, the russian ambassador on Italian soil it was already summoned in July after accuse the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, of “Russophobia” for various manifestations.
