Khabarovsk: Moscow’s new nuclear submarine specially designed for the Poseidon drone-torpedoes

A new nuclear-powered one, the Khabarovsk, much smaller in size than the previous ones, but at the same time just as destructive, as it is designed to carry up to six of the new Poseidon nuclear-powered “torpedoes” presented a few days ago, was launched over the weekend according to reports.

The launching ceremony took place on Saturday

The ceremony for the unveiling of its new nuclear submarine took place on Saturday in Severodvinsk and was attended by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and other high-ranking officials of the armed forces, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense. As noted, the submarine was specifically designed to carry the massive torpedo-shaped Poseidon nuclear-powered drone and does not carry long-range missile launchers capable of carrying nuclear warheads like other classes of Russian submarines.

“By carrying underwater weapons and robotic systems, it will allow us to successfully complete missions related to ensuring the security of Russia’s maritime borders and protecting its national interests in various parts of the world’s oceans,” Belousov said in his related statements. The minister added that the submarine still had to complete a series of sea trials and wished its crew and builders further success.

It will be able to carry the Poseidon superweapon

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Poseidon nuclear-powered drones had been successfully tested.

Speaking at a meeting with wounded soldiers at Moscow’s Madryka hospital, Putin said that “for the first time, it was possible to launch a nuclear engine” for the underwater torpedo-driven drone system, the report said.

Putin added that this new weapon is impossible to intercept and that “in terms of speed and depth, it has no analogues in the world.”
