On Tuesday evening, the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini met with the chairman of the Czech ANO movement Andrej Babiš as part of a working visit to the Czech Republicwho, after the victorious October parliamentary elections, was entrusted by President Petr Pavel with negotiating the formation of a new government. Pellegrini congratulated Babiš on his victory and confirmed Slovakia’s interest in continuing the format of joint meetings of governments. TASR was informed about this by the communication department of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic (KP SR).

“We are facing common challenges – energy security, decarbonisation of industry, green and digital transformation, defence, nuclear energy in the EU, including the diversification of gas and oil supplies. That is why I am pleased that we are united by the will to find solutions for the benefit of the people of both countries. The V4 format is also a good space for joint discussion – I am glad that we also find agreement on the need to revive it,” said Pellegrini on social networks.

At the same time, the President of the Slovak Republic believes that after the appointment of the new cabinet, the tradition will be preserved, according to which the first foreign visit of the Czech Prime Minister is to Slovakia. Pellegrini met with Babiš in Prague’s Municipal House, where he arrived for the gala concert of the Košice State Philharmonic. It is held on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of the former Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garriqua Masaryk and the Slovak politician and diplomat Milan Rastislav Štefánik. Before the start of the concert, he also negotiated with President Pavlo.
