Polish President Karol Nawrocki will start a tour of the countries of the Vyšehrad Four (V4) with a visit to Slovakia on Wednesday. Although cooperation within the V4 is not a priority for the Polish government, Nawrocki considers this Central European grouping to be a proven and effective cooperation format, which Poland should continue to use. On Tuesday, according to the PAP agency, Marcin Przydacz, adviser to the Polish president for international affairs, stated this, TASR reports.

“The southern direction, with a special emphasis on the countries of the Vyšehrad Group, will be a key point of the president’s diplomatic activities in the coming weeks,” said Przydacz. “There are certain interests that certainly connect us with the V4 countries, especially in the fight against excessive centralization and dominance within the EU,” stated the adviser of the Polish president. “We have to build alliances, for example in the area of the migration pact,” he emphasized.

Przydacz admitted that there are still differences between the V4 countries in their attitudes towards Russia and the war in Ukraine. “In international politics, relations are not defined solely by what divides or unites us. There are many common priorities on our agenda – among them economic, cross-border and energy security.” he added.

On Wednesday in Bratislava, the Polish head of state will meet with President Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister Robert Fico and Chairman of the National Council Richard Raši. Nawrocki will visit Prague at the end of November, where he will meet with President Peter Pavlo. He will also attend a meeting with the new Czech prime minister, if the new coalition manages to form a government by then. He will end his tour of the V4 countries in Ostrihom, Hungary, at the summit of the V4 heads of state, after which he will move to Budapest, where he will be received by President Tamás Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
