The singer Marília Mendonça already had more than 10 years of career in music — between work as an interpreter and composer — when she died in a plane crash at the age of 26, in 2021, a date that turns four years old this Wednesday (5).

His trajectory collected great successes, awards, records and releases and left marks on the feminejo movement, in which he was one of the great exponents, earning the nickname .

According to the description of her profile on the Spotify platform, she “introduced a new language to the country, spoke directly to the public, exalted women without demeaning men. Precise in her singing, in her speeches and in her attitudes, she showed that it is possible to make dreams come true based on your own truth. She enchanted ordinary people and artists from all walks of life.”

Before success

Wander Oliveira, founder of the artistic career management office Work Show and her first manager, said in an interview with the YouTube channel André Piunti that she contacted him as a teenager with a collection of songs.

“The album had ten songs recorded, all original. I thought the music didn’t have such a great commercial quality, but for a 13-year-old girl it was a phenomenon”, she said.

Even though she was not yet investing in her career as a singer, Oliveira hired her to compose for the office, paying a salary of around R$3,000.

“I took a while to record Marília because I thought that putting a girl from that city on the road was very difficult. Her mother had a car, so there was no way she could go and we needed people to accompany her on the road”, reported the businessman.

However, when Wander thought it was the right time to launch it, the success, according to him, was certain.

“I was always very sure of Marília, because she was way above average. […] it was very different”, said the founder of Work Show.

About the singer’s second show, in the capital of Goiás, he says that “It was her city, she was nervous. When she went to sing [a música ‘Alô Porteiro’]he started crying and couldn’t continue. And then she stopped and the whole club sang the whole song. When it finished, they started to clap their hands and shout ‘Marília’. There, it was clear that she would be a great singer, that it was impossible not to be successful.”

Career

Marília Mendonça’s first EP was released in 2014, with tracks such as “Alô Porteiro”, “O Que Falta em Você Sou Eu” and “Sentimento Louco” being part of the repertoire.

In the following years, he released singles in partnership with names already consolidated in the country music market: “Impasse”, with the duo Henrique & Juliano, and “Vou Levando a Minha”, in a feat with & Rafael.

In total, Rainha do Sertanejo released seven albums and 11 EPs, in addition to dozens of singles. She sang alongside country names such as Maiara and Maraísa — with whom she had the “Festa das Patroas” project –, Anitta, Bruno & Marrone, Zezé Di Camargo, among others.

Marília Mendonça’s songwriting career was not left behind in the number of hits. Ecad (Central Collection and Distribution Office) announced that there are 345 musical works and 482 recordings by Marília Mendonça registered in its database.

Also, Maiara, Maraisa’s duo, has saved more than 30 songs composed with the Queen that have not yet been released.

She was responsible for the lyrics of country music songs such as “Calma”, by Jorge & Mateus, “Flor e Beija Flor” and “Cuida Bem Dela”, by Henrique & Juliano, and “É Com Ela Que Eu Isso”, by Cristiano Araújo.

Posthumous recognition

“We continue with the work as if Marília was still with us and, interestingly, the revenue continues. Marília is an artist who still generates income. She doesn’t do shows, but her digital part is one of the most profitable”, commented businessman Wander Oliveira.

After her death, on November 5, 2021, three EPs from the “Decretos Reais” project were released, with songs that the singer recorded before the accident.

They include the hits “Te Amo Demais”, “Morango do Nordeste” and the resounding success “”, in partnership with rapper Xamã, which, according to , was one of the most performed songs at shows held in Brazil. The two even dethroned Luan Santana and Miley Cyrus.

At the moment, the song has already surpassed 449 million plays on Spotify and 395 million on YouTube.

His posthumous album, “Decretos Reais”, released in May 2023, in the category of Best Country Music Album.

“We remember and talk about her every day and we always design projects for her. If I say that life is back to normal, it’s a lie. This void will exist forever, this gap will always be there”, concluded Wander.
