Minister Luiz, president of , will travel to Belém this Thursday (6) to participate in , the conference on . During his hearing, the vice-president of the court will lead the proceedings of the plenary, thus making his debut as President of the court.
Fachin participates in the leaders’ summit, which precedes the discussions between technicians, and begins on Thursday, in addition to promoting an event on climate justice the following week.
“Climate change is one of the defining themes of our time. It is a global challenge that requires urgent responses. It is no longer a question of acting on behalf of future generations. The effects are already a present reality, very close to us and a reality that affects the most vulnerable segments of society in an especially acute way,” said Fachin.
Given the advancement of climate issues, according to the minister, the Judiciary has a role to play.
“In the confrontation, we are expected to provide effective, prudent and responsible jurisdiction based on scientific evidence and the necessary firmness in protecting the environment in accordance with the constitution and the law. This is the message I will carry.”
According to him, the Judiciary will also promote an event dedicated to climate justice and human rights on November 13th.
“Something unprecedented in the context of the COPs held so far. We will have with us the CNJ, STJ, TSE, TST, STM. Also invited are the PGR, the OAB and the DPU, as well as representatives of civil society and magistrates from countries that make up the Amazon basin”, he said.
