No woman died during operation in Rio, says Civil Police

Criminal from Amazonas was confused with drug trafficker Penélope, known as ‘Japinha’ of Comando Vermelho

The identification was made by a team of Civil Police experts

A confirmed the identification of Cleiton Souza da Silva, one of the main organizers of drug trafficking in the north of the country, among the criminals killed during the carried out in the complexes of and from on Tuesday last week (28), which resulted in the deaths of 121 people, including four police officers. Born in Amazonas, Cleiton was linked to Comando Vermelho and considered one of those responsible for strengthening the faction’s national presence.

Cleiton’s face was disfigured when he was hit by rifle shots during the confrontation. For this reason, he had been confused with drug trafficker Penélope, known as Japinha, from who would be among those killed in the action. The Civil Police confirmed that no women were killed in Operation Containment.

In addition to Cleiton, eight other criminals from Amazonas have already been identified among the dead. The identification was made by the Civil Police expert team. The circumstances of the deaths are investigated by the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC). Investigations continue with the aim of identifying other members of Comando Vermelho and their interstate and international connections.
