Man was identified and arrested; attack took place during a walk in the center of the Mexican capital
The president of Mexico, (Morena, left), was the victim of an episode of sexual harassment while walking and greeting people in the center of Mexico City, on Tuesday (4.Nov).
In a video posted on social media, it is possible to see the moment when a man, identified as Uriel Rivera, approaches and makes inappropriate contact. The president did not walk with security guards at her side mediating the approaches.
In the images, Sheinbaum takes photos with supporters when a man approaches from behind. He passes his hand over the president’s waist and breasts and tries to kiss her neck. A security guard then arrives and takes the man away.
Sheinbaum tries to get around the situation and pats the man on the back, before continuing on his walk. The president was heading to an event at the Ministry of Public Education, near the presidential palace.

Authorities from Mexico’s SSPC (Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection) reported that Rivera was detained hours after the incident. The Secretary of Women in Mexico, Citlali Hernández, the episode on his profile on X (formerly Twitter).
“The violence that women suffer results from the normalization, by some men, of the invasion of our personal space and/or our bodies“, he wrote.
There is still no official statement from the president’s office on the case.
