The government (Republicans) is preparing an environmental letter of intent and organized a seminar on green, which began this Tuesday (4). The idea is to try to stand out on the environmental agenda, which will have the government (PT) as a protagonist.
The event, Summit Agenda SP+Verde, brought together 67 companies in tents set up in Parque Villa-Lobos, in the west zone of the capital of São Paulo, and is scheduled until this Wednesday (5). The opening of the climate conference, in , will be this Thursday (6).
Listed as a right-wing candidate for Planalto in 2026, Tarcísio gave weight to the event, moving most of his secretariat to attend the opening ceremony. Throughout his government, unlike his political godfather (), he recognized global warming and the need for an energy transition to mitigate the climate crisis.
The governor was Bolsonaro’s Minister of Infrastructure and defends the suspension of punishments against the former president — in the electoral sphere, Bolsonaro became ineligible for abuse of political and economic power, and, in the criminal sphere, he was by the (Supreme Federal Court) for leading the coup plot.
During the Bolsonaro government, agencies such as Ibama and Funai, responsible for protecting environmental areas and indigenous reserves, were targets of attacks. The same happened with Inpe, which monitors deforestation in the country.
“There couldn’t be a better event, a better opportunity, pre-COP30. A big warming, we could say like that”, said Tarcísio when opening his speech, in which he highlighted environmental actions taken by his administration, such as encouraging renewable fuels, credit to companies working in the energy transition and an agreement that provides for discounts for the payment of environmental fines and the recovery of deforested areas.
Tarcísio also cited an increase in sewage collection, resulting from the privatization of Sabesp, and projected a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in public transport with more investments in trains and subways. “There’s a lot for us to celebrate in terms of sustainability,” he said.
There was an expectation that the governor would visit the event stands and hold a press conference. However, he refused to speak to journalists and ended up not being asked about the opposition between Bolsonarism speeches and the .
An assistant, in conversation with the Sheetstated that, in the green area, Tarcísio asks his team to act in a technical way, without guidance to defend Bolsonaro’s agenda, seeking to highlight the economic opportunities brought by the environmental agenda.
Tarcísio, however, did not confirm his presence at COP30. He must send his Secretary of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics, Natália Resende, and the Undersecretary of Energy and Mining, Marisa Maia de Barros.
Natália said that the letter of intent that must be released by the São Paulo government will not impose charges on the federal government.
“We are going to create a letter of commitments in which the state reinforces its commitment in relation to water security, biodiversity, food security. A whole line of action. Energy transition, decarbonization, looking at our transport matrix and increasingly stimulating the issue of waterway trails”, he said.
