In a large-scale drone attack in Russia’s Volgograd region in the south of the country, at least one person was killed and a fire broke out in an industrial zone. On Thursday, local governor Andrej Bočarov informed about this, writes TASR according to the AFP agency.

The Ukrainian attack hit a 24-story residential building, damaging balconies and breaking windows on nearby buildings as well. Bočarov announced on the Telegram social network that a 48-year-old civilian was killed in the attack. Falling debris from the drones also caused a fire in an industrial area, which has already been extinguished.
The Volgograd region is an important industrial center with refineries and oil and gas processing plants. In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified drone and missile attacks on Russian territory, especially on industrial facilities, AFP recalled. Moscow, which launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022meanwhile, stepped up airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and rail networks.
