The former president () arrives on the eve of the analysis in the STF (Supreme Federal Court) of his appeals against the coup plot with a fluctuating health and mood, according to allies.
He still has hiccups, but less frequently than before, and has been able to talk. In addition, he maintains a healthier eating routine, taking protein vitamins, and exercising outside his home — where he has been imprisoned since August 4th.
The former president continues to demonstrate to interlocutors his annoyance with his conviction and apprehension about the future, referring to prison as a humiliation. But he has also tried to demonstrate good humor.
The reports were made to the reporter by at least three people who were with him in recent weeks and allies who spoke to family members.
According to his brother Renato Bolsonaro, who visited him for three days in a row, the former president told jokes and anecdotes. “I tried not to say anything about this subject of resources. Very unpleasant. I enjoyed seeing my brother, I hadn’t seen him for over 90 days. His situation is very delicate, it’s not fake news,” he told Sheet.
According to him, Bolsonaro was fine and had no hiccups on the first day. In the second, there was a crisis. “It’s a complicated condition, he takes continuous medication. But, as far as possible, he’s hopeful. I saw him taking a popular medication, a homemade product, which he says is good. Anything that will help is welcome,” he stated, without details of what that medication would be.
He also said that the former president has a “very balanced” diet, in contrast to the eating routine that worried allies before his house arrest. At the PL headquarters, for example, Bolsonaro had a habit of eating noodles.
According to Renato, Bolsonaro is taking a protein smoothie and exercising whenever possible.
The former president’s brother was also in Brasília to meet with the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, from whom he received an invitation to be a candidate for federal deputy next year.
Even though Bolsonaro continues to have hiccups, he no longer has crises like the ones that led him to hospital in recent months – the last one being in September.
The former first lady told interlocutors that she resumed traveling on weekends for PL Mulher, which she presides over, because her husband is feeling more willing.
She was in Soledade (RS) on the 25th, in Sorriso (MT) on the 1st and will travel to Londrina (PR) next Saturday (8).
Imprisoned since August 4, Bolsonaro seeks to reverse his sentence of 27 years and three months in the Supreme Court. On Friday, the First Panel will begin analyzing the defense embargoes.
In the end, if the conviction is confirmed, the former president could begin serving his sentence in a closed regime later this year. Last week, the minister of the (Federal Supreme Court) sent his chief of staff to a meeting.
The visit by Moraes’ assistant raised alarm in the Government of the Federal District about the possibility of Bolsonaro being sent to prison after the end of the coup plot process, scheduled for this year.
On Monday (3), the Secretary of Penitentiary Administration of Brasília, Wenderson Souza e Teles, sent a letter to the minister’s office requesting that before his definitive arrest.
The objective, according to the document, is to assess whether he is able to stay in Papuda in the face of health problems.
The decision on where Bolsonaro and the others convicted of the coup plot will be detained rests exclusively with Moraes. This definition will only be announced after the Supreme Court analyzes all defense resources.
Allies of the former president oscillate between assessing that the magistrate will opt for prison and that he will consider the health situation to leave him at home.
Supreme Court ministers rule out the possibility of Bolsonaro being imprisoned in a military unit. One of the reasons given is the intention to prevent a possible detention of the former president in the Urban Military Sector, in Brasília, from causing a new gathering of people in front of military installations — like the coup camps set up after the 2022 elections.
as to Sheet showed in September, even before the trial of the coup plot, Bolsonaro was already planning to ask to continue being detained at home, if he was convicted.
The atmosphere around the former president is one of despondency. The expectation at the end of the trial is that there will be timid reactions from supporters. The justification is that the restrictions imposed on the ex-president ended up reducing the numbers on the streets.
Bolsonaro went to the hospital for the last time, where he was admitted for a day after feeling ill. The senator (PL-RJ), son of the former president, said that on social media he had a “severe attack of hiccups, vomiting and low blood pressure.”
The former president can leave house arrest due to a medical emergency, but his defense must present a report to Moraes after the incident.
