Hungary will examine EU competences in key areas. Minister János Bóka highlighted the importance of defining the optimal division of powers.
The Hungarian government has decided to carry out a systematic review of the powers of the European Union in certain key areas such as economic policy, energy policy, migration policy, family policy and culture. According to the infostart.hu server, this was stated on Thursday by the minister responsible for EU affairs, János Bóka, at the National University of Public Services (NKE) in Budapest, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.
The head of the department said at the second conference of the Network of European Studies that the goal of the revision is to identify areas in which the powers exercised by the EU go beyond the provisions of the Hungarian constitution.
Division of powers
Bóka added that they also identify areas in which the distribution of powers between the EU and member states “is not necessarily optimal.”
Regarding the question of the possible development of EU powers, the minister pointed out that either it will be an extension of the powers of Brussels, which will cause political resistance, or the Union will move to reassess the jurisdiction, which means strengthening the powers of the member states.
