Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák met in Madrid with his Spanish colleague Margarita Roblesová, with whom he discussed the development of the arms industry and the possibilities of ammunition production, in which, according to the Ministry of Defence, the Slovak Republic is among the world leaders. TASR informs about it.

  • The Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic visited Madrid for negotiations on the arms industry.
  • The meeting included a discussion on ammunition production and industrial development.
  • Slovakia and Spain plan to strengthen military cooperation.
  • MSM GROUP included as an important company in the cooperation of countries.
  • Spanish forces lead NATO groups and operate in Slovakia.

“The way to the growth of the Slovak economy is through the support of the domestic defense industry, which is evidenced by the annual increase in the arms industry as a share of GDP,” stated the Slovak Ministry of Defense in a Thursday press release.

The Spanish media also reported on Kaliňák’s visit to Madrid this week. Roblesová expressed hope that Slovakia and Spain will continue to deepen cooperation in military-industrial capacities. According to the Démócrat newspaper, in this context she highlighted the importance of Fábrica de Municiones de Granada, which is part of the Slovak holding company MSM GROUP.

According to the newspaper, Kaliňák praised Spain’s role in protecting NATO’s eastern wing at the meeting. The Spanish armed forces command the multinational NATO battle group in Slovakia, since last year they have almost 800 personnel and 200 vehicles in Poland. It is one of eight multinational NATO battle groups on its eastern flank as part of the deterrence and defense strategy.
