President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) took to social media to celebrate the unanimous approval in Congress of the income tax (IR) exemption for those earning up to R$5,000. “The name of this is tax justice”, he celebrated.

Lula thanked the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) and the rapporteur of the project in the Senate, Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL). “Today is a historic day. We took a decisive step towards a fairer country, with a tax system that makes contributions more balanced and recognizes the efforts of everyone who helps build Brazil”, he stated.

According to the president, “millions of people who live off their work will no longer need to pay income tax or will have reduced taxes, guaranteeing more money in their pockets” and “those who earn a lot will contribute their fair share”.
