Independiente Rivadavia became champions of the Copa Argentina this Wednesday (5). After a 2-2 draw with Argentinos Juniors in regular time, the modest club from Mendoza won on penalties 5-3 and secured its unprecedented place in the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
In the campaign to the title, Rivadavia eliminated River Plate and Central Córdoba, teams that competed in the last edition of the tournament.
The goals of the decision
Alex Arce and Matías Fernández scored Rivadavia’s goals, while Alan Lescano and Erik Godoy scored for Argentinos Juniors, in stoppage time.
On penalties, Molina lost to Juniors, while Independiente’s players converted all the kicks.
About the club
Independiente Rivadavia gained access to the Argentine football elite in 2023. This is their first “first level” national title in history.
It will also be the club’s first participation in the history of the Copa Libertadores. The Argentine club has four Second Division titles and two Third Division titles on its CV.
