The deadline for Corinthians to pay R$41.5 million to midfielder Matías Rojas ended this Friday (7). The Parque São Jorge club was unable to pay the debt, but the Paraguayan and his staff are ruling out suing FIFA against Timão at the moment.
As reported by CNN in September, .
Although they have not yet reached an agreement, the parties remain confident that the negotiations will end positively.
Matías Rojas and his staff have until the beginning of January to contact FIFA, if they understand that the conversation with Timão’s representatives ends in a consensus.
Understand the case
The Corinthians board recognized a debt of R$8 million with Rojas at the beginning of 2024. The player was hired by the club in mid-2023, after a spell at Racing-ARG, under the management of Duilio Monteiro Alves.
President Augusto Melo committed to paying off the outstanding debt and agreed that, if the club were to delay its commitments with the player again, he could charge the entire remaining amount he would receive under his contract (R$40 million). That’s what happened.
The midfielder, signed without transfer costs, had a contract with Timão until June 2027.
After failing to reach a new agreement with Corinthians, Rojas unilaterally terminated his contract and took the case to court, charging the full amount.
