Doctors Without Borders premieres ‘Again and Again’, a documentary series about attacks against the civilian population in conflict zones

He October 3, 2015when the war in Afghanistan (2001-2021) was going through one of its bloodiest periods, the humanitarian organization Doctors without Borders (MSF) suffered what still remains the deadliest attack in its history. An aerial bombardment by the United States Army against the trauma hospital it had deployed in Kunduzin the north of the country, left 42 fatalities which included patients, caregivers and 14 MSF workersin addition to dozens of injured.

A tragedy that he recovers ten years later with the first episode of his documentary series ‘Again and again’. The first of a set of three episodes, lasting about ten minutes, which revolve around attacks against the civilian population and the medical mission deployed in the war conflicts of Afghanistan, Yemen and the Gaza Stripand that are part of his campaign #OurRedLine.

Throughout these chapters, hosted on its own website and social networks, MSF tries to address how these are experienced. aggressions in conflict contextsits consequences, its impunity, and what mechanisms exist to prevent them. After chapters in which they introduce themselves to aid workers victims of these same attackswho now remember them as a form of denunciation and demand for the safety of medical missions in war environments.

Attack, damage and impunity

In the first episode, released this Thursday under the title ‘The attack’, the bombing of that October 3rd in which the US launched 211 shellsunder the unproven premise that MSF was hosting members of the Taliban side. During the documentary, Faizullah Alokozaian admissions technician at the same Kunduz hospital, and one of the survivors of that attack, remembers the events of that night a decade later. An attack against MSF that, according to this same organization, “It was a turning point.” in the history of attacks against medical operations deployed in conflict zones. Although, however, they question whether the actions subsequently taken by the international community have changed anything.

On Thursday the 13th, the second chapter will be released, titled ‘The damage’ and with Yemen in the center. This will revolve around Mohamed, who was left in the crossfire during attacks in Yemen. no mobility in one hand. Making him lose his job and forcing him to migrate to Jordan, leaving his family behind, to receive medical care and regain the use of that hand. A “domino effect” resulting from that attack whose consequences have been “painful and costly” both for him and for the survival of his family.

The third and final episode, ‘Impunidad’, will be released on Thursday, November 20 and will feature the Gaza Strip in the center. Where, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), between October 7, 2023 and September 25, 2024, they have been attacked 516 healthcare structures.
