Representatives of driving schools met last Tuesday (4) with the former president of (-AL) and asked for help to stop the government’s project to end the obligation to attend driving classes to obtain a National Driving License (CNH).
Lira is the main political opponent in Alagoas of the Minister of Transport, (), author of the idea. As the Panel showed,
“We spent 1h15 with deputy Lira, so it’s because the subject interested him a lot. We found him very receptive, very open, helpful with us. We are confident”, says Olga Catarina Zanoni, legal consultant at Abrauto, an association that brings together around 5,000 driving schools in Brazil.
When contacted by the Panel, Lira did not comment on the meeting. People close to him said that he only listened to the arguments of the driving schools, fulfilling his role as a deputy, and did not commit to any of the demands.

The meeting with Lira was one of the few publicized on the entity’s Instagram. Asked if the fact that he was an opponent of the minister weighed in on the decision to look for him, Zanoni replied “of course”.
The representative of the driving schools said that, in the conversation, she passed on to the former president of the Chamber a survey showing that around 80% of the sector is already suffering losses with the drop in student demand, anticipating the fact that driving classes will no longer be mandatory.
She also asked for help so that he can intercede with the Lula government to make it clear that, for now, nothing changes, as a way of minimizing the losses to driving schools.
The change in the way of obtaining a driver’s license must be announced by the government through a resolution by Contran (National Traffic Council), without going through Congress. Opponents are considering presenting a draft legislative decree suspending the measure.
