O achieved a fundamental victory on Thursday night (6), by defeating O 1-0, at Maracanã, in the 32nd round of O. The result keeps the Rio team alive in the fight for a place in the 2026 Copa Libertadores. With the triumph, Tricolor reached 50 points, opening a five-point lead over São Paulo, first outside the G-7, and maintained coach Zubeldía’s unbeaten record at Maracanã. Mirassol, which came from four games without losing, remains in fourth place, with 56 points, but saw the distance to Bahia, fifth placed, drop to four.
The duel started with excitement in the first few seconds, when Daniel Borges fouled Serna at the edge of the area and was initially sent off — after a VAR review, the card was reverted to yellow. Shortly afterwards, Lucho Acosta got scared with a dangerous free kick, and Mirassol responded with Negueba and Danielzinho, who wasted a good opportunity.
At 30 minutes, Serna opened the scoring for Flu. Before the break, the São Paulo team almost equalized with Shaylon, who finished outside the small area.
