Lando Norris took pole position in the sprint race, which runs until Sunday (9). Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri complete the top 3.

The shortest race, implemented in Formula 1 in 2021, is part of the six-circuit calendar in 2025. Interlagos is the fifth. In the coming weeks, Qatar will host the last edition of the event of the season.

How was the sprint classification

Norris finished SQ1 in 1st, with a time of 1:09.627, with Verstappen in second and Alonso in third. While his teammate Oscar Piastri was 4th in the first part of the session.

Among those eliminated were Argentine Franco Colapinto, Yuki Tsunoda, Max Verstappen’s teammate, and Carlos Sainz, who missed media commitments yesterday after feeling unwell.

In SQ2, the top had a surprise: Fernando Alonso led, followed by Norris, Russell and Piastri. Again, all drivers were on medium tires.

Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, an honorary citizen of Brazil, ended up falling, placing 14th and 11th, respectively.

The Ferrari driver was unlucky on his second lap after his teammate Charles Leclerc caused a yellow flag by spinning on the track, meaning Hamilton was unable to improve his time.

In SQ3, the ten drivers invested in soft tires, securing pole position for the sprint race, with a time of 1:09.243.

Completing the front row is Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, who was just 0.097s behind the Briton. Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate at McLaren, rounds out the top 3.

Max Verstappen, who is competing for the title with the McLaren duo, starts 6th.

The grid order can still be changed due to possible punishments. The sprint race takes place this Saturday (8) at 11am.
