The US Secretary of War published a 20-second video of the attack, accompanied by the message: “As we have said before, attacks on vessels against narco-terrorists will continue until their poisoning of the American people ceases.”
A new US air strike in the Caribbean Sea against a vessel suspected of drug trafficking left three dead, the US Secretary of War announced.
The attack was carried out in international waters and targeted “a vessel operated by a terrorist organization”, said Pete Hegseth, on Thursday, on the social network X.
Phow much at least 70 people already dieram in 17 North American operations of this type.
Hegseth published a 20-second video of the attack, accompanied by the message: “As we have said before, attacks on boats against narco-terrorists will continue until their poisoning of the American people ceases.”.
On Wednesday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, defended the attacks, stating that each saves 25,000 North American victims of drug trafficking, in an intervention at the American Business Forum.
On Wednesday, Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed a small group of congressional leaders on the military campaign, offering a glimpse into the legal justification and strategy behind the attacks.
Republicans remained silent or expressed confidence in the campaign.
Democrats said that Congress need more information about how attacks are conducted and about the legal justification for actions that critics say violate international law and U.S. law by killing alleged drug traffickers on the high seas.
On Thursday, Republicans voted in the Senate, the upper house of Congress, against a proposal that would have limited Trump’s ability to launch an attack against Venezuela.
The proposal was an attempt by Democrats to pressure parliament to take a stronger role in Trump’s campaign against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
