Acre has recorded a historic increase in same-sex unions in the last 12 years. Data from the 2022 Demographic Census, released this Wednesday (5) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), show that the state has 2,998 same-sex couples, which represents 0.89% of the 335,821 couples in Acre.

In 2010, the number was significantly lower, just 139 unions, 26 of which were formalized at a registry office. The jump represents growth of more than 2,000% in this period
Among the unions registered in 2022, 2,050 are between women and 948 between men, reinforcing a national trend of female predominance in same-sex relationships.
In the country’s scenario, IBGE pointed out that 0.7% of Brazilian households are occupied by same-sex couples, approximately 480 thousand unions, a significant increase compared to 2010, when they represented just 0.1% (58 thousand).
The data also shows that 77.6% of these unions are consensual, while 13.5% were registered civilly. The survey also provides a detailed overview of the family structure in Brazil, including information on age, color or race, education, income and religion, allowing a broader picture of social transformations in recent decades.
