The shocking case stunned everyone! Briton Paul Angliss (62) had been suffering from severe back pain for many months, which he attributed to fatigue and age. However, he had no idea that it was a symptom of an incurable and rare cancer of the bone marrow – myeloma, writes the newspaper
Everything changed in October 2024, when you hit your finger hard on a chair at home. The impact “shot” pain down his entire spine and caused a fracture in his cervical vertebra. Only in the hospital, after magnetic resonance imaging and tests, did the doctors reveal the true cause – aggressive myeloma that was literally eating away at his bones. They found 28 holes in his spine.
Paul admitted that it was this unfortunate stumble saved his life – otherwise the disease would have progressed unnoticed and could cause the entire spine to collapse.
This was followed by chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation and later participation in a clinical study. In October 2025, the doctors informed him that he was in remission – no more cancer cells were found in the blood or bone marrow. Paul is warning the public today not to ignore long-term back pain. “If it’s not just a strained muscle and the pain persists, see a doctor. I’ve been lucky in my misfortune,” he warns.
