This is “a measure of greater social justice and support for families with children with cancer”, considers centrist deputy Paulo Núncio.
PSD and CDS-PP propose, within the scope of the next State Budget, to increase the reference remuneration for the care allowance for children with oncological diseases to 100% and also to reinforce the use of generic medicines in outpatient settings.
These proposals were presented by deputies from the two parties that support the Government, at a press conference in the Assembly of the Republic.
At this press conference, the parliamentary leader of the CDS-PP detailed the proposals of the two parties that formed part of the AD coalition in the field of Health and indicated that the increase from 65% to 100% is intended for one of the parents accompanying their sick child.
This is “a measure of greater social justice and support for families with children with cancer”, argued Paulo Núncio.
When it comes to reinforcing the use of generic medicines in outpatient clinics, these parties want to “reach a market share of at least 65%” and the parliamentary leader of the CDS-PP indicated that this is an “old cause of the CDS and also the PSD”.
Other health changes
In the context of health, PSD and CDS-PP also want to promote the award of new public-private partnership contracts, “provided that two criteria are met”.
“Whenever they improve the quality of the health service and are advantageous to the public interest” in terms of “quality versus cost”, explained Paulo Núncio.
Regarding palliative and continued care, the centrist deputy indicated that the two parties also propose an “in-depth analysis, taking into account three criteria, the patient’s daily cost, the increase in the minimum wage and the inflation rate”.
“The objective is to more effectively support integrated palliative and continued care units”, stated Paulo Núncio.
Another proposal within the scope of the State Budget for next year aims to guarantee regular screenings for glaucoma and other eye diseases for users over 60 years of age or who fall into risk groups, promoted by the primary health care of the National Health Service.
In his statement, the CDS-PP leader also defended that the State Budget proposal for 2026 “goes in the right direction”, because “it brings economic growth, reduces taxes, has a strong social concern, points to a budget surplus for the third consecutive year, for the first time in the history of Portuguese democracy, and reduces public debt to a value below 90% of GDP for the first time since 2009”.
“It’s a good budget in Portugal and anywhere in the world, but with the joint proposals of the PSD Parliamentary Group and the CDS Parliamentary Group, this budget will get even better”, highlighted Paulo Núncio.
