The president of the United States, , stated this Friday, after meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, that he would like to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on a date in Hungary to find a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
“I would like to hold the meeting in Hungary, in Budapest. In the end I decided that I did not want to hold it because I did not believe anything important was going to happen. But if we do hold it, I would like it to be in Budapest,” he said at the White House.
The idea is not newsince last October the Republican had announced that he would meet with Putin in the Hungarian capital to find a solution to the war.
However, This meeting finally did not take place and it was suspended indefinitely after the White House considered that it did not have sufficient guarantees that said meeting would be beneficial after a call between the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“The fundamental dispute is that they simply do not want to stop (the war) yet. I believe they will”declared the American president at that time. “I think this has had a big impact on Russia, a big impact on both countries, obviously, but it has had a big impact (on Russia),” he finally added.
