The President of the USA received the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, at the White House this Friday (Nov 7); stated that bilateral negotiations with Putin in Budapest continue
The President of the United States, (Republican Party), said this Friday (7.Nov.2025) that negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine should lead to an end to the conflict soon. The statement was made alongside the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán (Fidesz, right), at the White House.
“I think we will be able to end this war in the not too long future”said Trump. The bilateral meeting with the Hungarian prime minister also aims to facilitate the meeting between the US president and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
The meeting between Trump and Putin returned to the negotiation phase after the North American leader canceled the summit because he considered that Russia was not willing to accept a ceasefire. “They don’t want to stop yet […] We will communicate about this later”declared the republican this Friday (7.nov).
Orbán stated that only Hungary and the USA want peace in Ukraine. The Hungarian Prime Minister criticized the European Union’s policy of supporting the continuation of the conflict against Russia. Asked by journalists if he believes Ukrainian victory in the war is impossible, he replied: “Miracles happen”.
In addition to the war in Ukraine, the closed meeting between Trump and Orbán will discuss tariffs, military and financial cooperation and energy prices. The purchase of Russian oil by the Hungarian government is not on the agenda, according to the prime minister.
Trump once again stated that Hungary is in a different position from other European Union countries that continue to negotiate the supply of oil from Russia. “Many other countries in Europe don’t have these problems and are buying Russian oil. This question had to be asked of them”these.
The republican declared that the country has no ports or access to the sea, which makes it difficult to seek other energy sources. Orbán complemented the statement and stated that “gas pipelines are not ideological”.
