The Austrian government today announced the discovery of weapons in and the arrest in London of a British man suspected of links to three alleged members of the Austrian government who were planning attacks on Jewish or Israeli institutions and were arrested in early October in Germany.
Five pistols and six magazines were seized from a rented warehouse in Vienna.
A 39-year-old British man was arrested on Monday in London and “is suspected of being closely linked to this arms cache,” the government said in a press release, citing “thorough, internationally coordinated investigations into a terrorist organization operating globally and close to Hamas.”
His arrest was confirmed to AFP by the British Crime Agency, which added that the man is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 10.
He was previously requested by the German justice system, which requests his extradition. He had transported the weapons to Vienna during the summer.
He was also in contact with one of three men suspected in Germany of plotting attacks, according to a German justice press release.
German prosecutors had announced in early October the arrest of these alleged Hamas members, who were suspected of buying weapons intended for “lethal attacks against Israeli or Jewish facilities in Germany.”
Hamas has denied being associated with them.
