Gabriel Bortoleto will have to make a recovery run in his debut at the São Paulo F1 GP, this Sunday (9), at 2pm (Brasília time). The Brazilian was left out of qualifying, and Sauber is still evaluating whether he will start from the last position on the grid or from the pits.
Earlier, in the sprint race, the driver had a serious crash on the last lap after losing control of the car at the end of the main straight. He was fighting for tenth position, behind Alexander Albon, when he suffered the accident.
The team began a journey against time to repair the car. The mechanics even assembled a spare chassis, but there wasn’t enough time to get it on the track in the first part of qualifying.
Bortoleto waited in the cockpit until the last minute, when Sauber confirmed that he would not be able to participate in the session.
