Resources will be used in family farming and productive inclusion actions; text goes to the Senate plenary
The Senate Economic Affairs Committee approved on Tuesday (4.Nov.2025) a message from the Executive Branch (MSF) requesting authorization from the Senate to contract an external credit operation worth up to US$35 million between the government, in the interest of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, and IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development).
The resources will be used to finance the Food and Nutritional Security and Climate Resilience Project in the Northeast Semiarid Region – Dom Helder Câmara 3rd Project. The favorable report by senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) was read to the committee on Tuesday by senator Fernando Farias (MDB-AL). The draft Senate resolution (PRS) will be voted on in plenary, as a matter of urgency.
The loan contract informs that the objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of rural poverty and food and nutritional insecurity in family farming. To achieve this, it is divided into 3 components: promoting food and nutritional security from an agroecological perspective; capacity building, innovation and dissemination and project management and monitoring and evaluation.
“Disbursements will take place over 6 years, counting from the date of entry into force of the loan contract. The total cost of the project was estimated at US$45 million, with US$10 million coming from federal counterpart and the remainder financed by IFAD”says Rogério Carvalho in his report.
