Doesn't the rain give 'a break'? Learn the Norwegian method for drying clothes in five minutes without using a machine

Drying clothes in the coldest or rainiest months can be a real headache, and for those who don’t have a dryer, or prefer to avoid energy consumption, there is a method, shared by a curious and effective Norwegian, that promises to solve the problem in just a few minutes.

The trick, also known as the “burrito method”, was popularized by Tor Rydder, a Norwegian organization expert and author of the YouTube channel Organizing TV, and is gaining prominence on the networks for its simplicity. According to the creator, it is possible to remove much of the moisture from freshly washed clothes just with a towel and a little pressure.

What is the “burrito method”?

According to Tor Rydder, the process is quick and only requires a dry towel and a flat surface, like the floor or a table. The secret is in the way the clothing is rolled and pressed, allowing the towel to absorb excess water.

First, you must place the item of clothing stretched out on the towel. Then, roll the towel over itself until it forms a compact roll: it is this step that gives rise to the name “burrito”. The next step is to apply pressure to the roller, kneeling or twisting slightly, so that the towel absorbs the moisture. Finally, simply unroll and let the piece air for a few minutes. The fabric will be visibly drier and ready to hang.

In what situations can it be useful?

The trick can be particularly useful in various everyday circumstances. When traveling or staying in places without a dryer, such as hostels, temporary apartments or hotels, it can be a practical solution for those who need dry clothes quickly.

It is also useful in cold or humid climates, when natural drying takes days. In these cases, the “burrito method” significantly reduces drying time and avoids unpleasant odors caused by accumulated moisture.

Help in emergencies and savings

Another advantage is the speed with which it resolves everyday emergencies: when a specific item needs to be used and it is still wet. It only takes a few minutes for it to be ready to wear.

Furthermore, there are those who use this method to save energy. According to Rydder, reducing the use of the dryer can help lower your electricity bill, especially relevant at a time when energy prices remain high.

Preserves tissues and prevents damage

This method also has the advantage of being gentler on delicate clothes. Sportswear, wool or technical fabrics can deform or shrink when exposed to direct heat from dryers. By using just a towel and manual pressure, the risk of damaging the fibers is practically non-existent.

According to the expert, this technique does not completely replace outdoor drying, but it speeds up the process considerably. “It’s a simple way to remove much of the water without using electricity and without damaging your clothes”, explained Tor Rydder in the video shared on his website.

The “burrito method” thus joins a growing list of household tricks that combine sustainability, savings and practicality, and promises to be an ally for those who want dry clothes even on rainy days.
