Two events just a few kilometers away from each other, in Maia. College canceled congress, Reconquista changed the site.
The first news was about the congress of the group Reconquest, an extreme right-wing movement that, among other principles, defends the forced expulsion of immigrants and is against LGBTQ+ rights.
The congress would take place this Saturday at the Francisco Assis Auditorium (Colégio Luso-Francês), in Porto. But the College decided cancel the event.
When a form was filled out, “two kids” claimed it would be a cultural event, says Nuno Santos, auditorium manager.
But, “contrary to what was contracted”, the congress would after all be an event of a “political nature”, something prohibited in the rules of space, explains Nuno Santos in .
Afonso Gonçalves, founder of Reconquista, said on social media that this was an “illegal, illegitimate and cowardly” decision.
But the movement has already found an alternative: in . The price to attend the congress will from 15 to 200 euros.
Meanwhile, also this Saturday, and probably also in Maia, the second day of the “Masters of the Sea” will take place, a music festival organized by neo-Nazis Blood & Honor. An event prohibited in other European countries.
According to , the first day of the festival (Friday) took place in a parish hall in the Maia area.
Participants would only know the exact location hours before the start of the event – as usual.
Expresso also reports that dozens of foreign extremists arrived in Porto in recent days. They came from Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland and Poland. Some have already published photos of themselves from Greater Porto.
One is Jared Taylor, who is against “race mixing”; another is Steve Laws, who calls himself a “migrant hunter”; another is a French radical who was a friend of Jean Marie Le Pen; or even a representative of a group of young Germans from the AfD.
Due to crimes of hatred against immigrantsmany of these extremists are already referenced by authorities of their countries.
