Forecast indicates winds of up to 100 km/h on the coast and gusts of up to 70 km/h in the capital of São Paulo, in addition to heavy rain in some regions
A issued a warning this Friday (7) for the arrival of a tropical cyclone that is advancing through the south of the country and is expected to hit the state between midnight and 1 am this Saturday (8). The forecast indicates winds of up to 100 km/h on the coast and gusts of up to 70 km/h in the capital of São Paulo, in addition to heavy rain in some regions.
According to Major Michele César, from the State’s Emergency Management Center (CGE), the phenomenon has already caused damage in Paraná, where gusts exceeded 100 km/h. “We are monitoring the situation with the use of radars, satellites and meteorological stations, in addition to maintaining direct contact with the civil defenses of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná”, he stated in an interview with Jovem Pan.
The crisis office was installed at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in São Paulo, to coordinate emergency actions. Energy concessionaires participate in operations to reduce possible impacts from the cyclone.
Civil Defense warns that the west and northwest regions of the State, including Marília and Presidente Prudente, are expected to record a greater volume of rain, while the coast, Vale do Paraíba, Campinas and Sorocaba may face strong gusts of wind.
“It is important that the population does not park vehicles under trees or unstable structures and call the firefighters on 193 or Civil Defense on 199 in case of falling trees or poles”, advised Major Michele.
The cyclone is expected to lose strength throughout Saturday and move away completely from São Paulo on Sunday (9). Temperatures should drop slightly, but without sudden changes, according to meteorological models monitored by the agency.
Civil Defense recommends that residents follow updates and new alerts through official social networks (@defesacivilsp) and avoid traveling in risk areas during the period of strong winds.
