Deputies from MDB and PSD defend Hugo Motta’s choice and assess what agreement can be reached
Leaders of centrist parties, allies of the president, such as MDB and PSD, defend the choice of the federal deputy to report on the government’s anti-faction project. They assessed the name as “balanced” and from a “non-Bolsonarist right”.
The Palácio do Planalto publicly protested against the appointment. The Minister of Institutional Relations, said on social media that the choice “contaminates the debate with electoral objectives”.
The choice of the hitherto Secretary of Public Security was articulated with the support of centrist government supporters and the commitment that Derrite write a balanced text, preferably without the term terrorism. Despite the agreement, the opposition must press for characterization to occur.
Leaders of center and center-left parties, allies of Lula, believe that the government needs to give in and negotiate the text with the rapporteur. This time, the fall would be more serious, since losing a clash on the security issue would cost a greater portion of the president’s popularity.

On social media, deputy Derrite said that he will accept points sent by the Government, but introduce changes of “extreme importance”, such as a sentence of 20 to 40 years for members of factions, the government’s text foresees 8 to 15 years.
The rapporteur also wants to change the rule for sentence progression, making it mandatory for the prisoner to have served at least 70% of the sentence, before having the sentence relieved. Today this rate is 40%.
The deputy also wants to add the obligation to serve sentences in a maximum security prison for leaders of organizations, in addition to the impossibility of amnesty or pardon.
