Hungary will get a full exemption from American sanctions imposed on the purchase of Russian energy products in the case of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline and the Druzhba oil pipeline. According to the MTI agency, this was announced by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán on Friday after negotiations with US President Donald Trump in Washington. The correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.
At a joint press conference with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Orbán said about the agreement reached that if it did not happen, in December the energy bills in every Hungarian household would be two to three times higher than today.
“This is a general and time-limited agreement,” specified the Prime Minister, according to which Budapest is adding new ones to the existing gas supply sources. Szijjártó added that Hungary may conclude a five-year contract with an American supplier for the purchase of liquefied natural gas.
According to Orbán, the American company Westinghouse will be involved in the Hungarian nuclear industry. Hungary will buy nuclear fuel from the United States.
“In addition, we will buy new types of small American modular reactors from the Americans, and the Americans will also supply more modern technologies for storing fuel cells,” informed the Hungarian Prime Minister, according to which the US government also lifted sanctions related to the Paks 2 nuclear power plant construction project.
Orbán agreed with Trump further nand the establishment of new financial cooperation, on US investment in the Hungarian space industry, but also on cooperation in the military industry.
“Peace efforts must continue, Hungary explicitly offers its capacities to them,” emphasized Orbán, according to which he and the American president agreed that the proposal for a peaceful meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest remains relevant. “When all prerequisites are met, the meeting will take place,concluded the Prime Minister of Hungary.
