Ibovespa reached its 13th consecutive daily advance today, renewing its closing record in the last 10 sessions

By mid-afternoon, in line with the continued correction of stock indexes in New York, it appeared on track for long-awaited profit-taking after 12 consecutive gains – nine of which were also at record closing levels. It was the index’s longest winning streak since the 12 rallies between May 15 and early June 1997, more than 28 years ago.

But what seemed unlikely happened, and today Ibovespa made its 13th consecutive daily advance, renewing its closing record in the last 10 sessions, and coming a little closer to the performance recorded between May and June 1994, during the birth of the real, when it made 15 increases without interruption, in the period from May 17th to June 7th.

In the end, today it marked a gain of 0.47%, for the first time closing at the level of 154 thousand, at 154,063.53 points, between a minimum of 152,367.52 and a maximum of 154,065.76 points in the session, in which it opened at 153,338.63. Turnover was R$24.2 billion this Friday.

The strong momentum of Petrobras after the balance sheet and the conference call relating to the third quarter results, with distribution of dividends in line with expectations, in the region of R$ 12 billion, imposed itself on the mostly negative dynamics in the other blue chips – but in the end, also positive for the big banks, which turned around in the session’s finishing line. Negative highlight for the metal sector, with Vale ON, the main Ibovespa share, down 1.10% and losses of up to 1.76% (CSN ON) among the main steelmakers.

In the first week of November, the B3 index accumulated a gain of 3.02% – the fourth consecutive weekly advance – and 28.08% in the year, on its way to its best performance since 2019, when it rose 31.58%.

However, the financial sector, the one with the greatest weight in the Ibovespa, gained strength in the middle to late afternoon, also contributing to the Ibovespa oscillating upwards in the afternoon stage and renewing highs at 154 thousand points towards the end of the day. Among the largest banks, gains were between 0.10% (Itaú PN) and 0.56% (Santander Unit) at the close, with Bradesco and Santander shares closing at their respective session highs.

The price settled slightly lower throughout the afternoon in the local market, following the behavior of the American currency abroad, after indicators suggested that there is room for the cut interest rates in December. With a low of R$5.3337, the dollar ended this Friday’s session (7) down 0.25%, at R$5.3357. It was the third session of currency devaluation, which reached the lowest closing level since October 6th (R$5.3107). The currency ends the first week of November with a drop of 0.83% against the real, after gains of 1.08% last month. For the year, losses are 13.66%.

In the morning, the currency began an upward movement, reaching a maximum of R$5.3656. Operators attributed the real’s momentary slide to position adjustments and profit-taking, in the wake of the fall in iron ore and a lower-than-expected result in China’s trade balance.
