Measure allows the state government to adopt emergency procedures, such as exemption from bidding, immediate mobilization of resources and request for federal support
The government of declared this Saturday (8) a state of public calamity in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, in the center-south of the state, after have reached around 90% of the residences and commercial buildings in the urban area of the municipality of around 14 thousand inhabitants.
“I decreed a state of public calamity, which allows us to speed up assistance and release resources. I have already ordered Cohapar to study strategies for rebuilding homes and we are preparing accommodation to guarantee support for families”, says the governor .
Unlike the emergency situation, declared when the municipality is still able to act, the state of public calamity is the administrative response in cases where the impact of the disaster is so serious that the response capacity of the public administration is severely compromised, requiring broader and more urgent measures.
The public calamity decree allows the state government to adopt emergency procedures, such as the exemption from bidding, the immediate mobilization of resources and the request for federal support. With the measure, the city hall can request, in addition to resources from the State Public Calamity Fund and sign emergency agreements.
Federal government teams were sent to Rio Bonito do Iguaçu to help support the victims and study the reconstruction of the affected areas. There were structural collapses, damage to the road network and the electrical network, which left part of the population without power. The storm was classified as a category F3 tornado with winds that reached up to 250 kilometers per hour, according to the Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar).
