(Christian Democratic Party, center-right), 58 years old, took office this Saturday (8.Nov.2025) as president of Bolivia. With the center-right in power, the country ends 20 years of left-wing governments. The term of office will be 5 years. It remains in power until 2030.
“God, country and family, yes, I swear”declared Paz when taking the oath in La Paz, the Bolivian capital.
Paz took over from (no party), who governed Bolivia from 2020 to 2025 and on November 6 from the MAS party (Movement to Socialism, left). According to information from Infobae, the decision was announced to journalists by the party leadership in response to “unfavorable electoral results”allegations of corruption and accusations of internal disloyalty.

Election of Rodrigo Paz
Rodrigo Paz Pereira President of Bolivia on October 19, defeating Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga (Aliança Livre, right) in the 2nd round. The senator and former mayor of Tarija obtained 54.6% of the votes, against 45.39% for Quiroga, according to results released by the Superior Electoral Court of Bolivia.
Rodrigo Paz’s victory ended 20 years of left-wing hegemony led by the MAS (Movement to Socialism) that governed the country since 2006 under the leadership of Evo Morales and, later, Luis Arce, and marks a center-right turn in the Bolivian political scene.
Rodrigo Paz Pereira was born in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), during his family’s exile. Son of former president Jaime Paz Zamora (1989-1993), he began his political career in the early 2000s.
Graduated in International Relations, with a specialization in economics, and a master’s degree in political management from American University, in Washington DC
His campaign defended a model of “capitalism for all”focusing on formalizing the economy, combating corruption and institutional reforms to limit re-election and strengthen Justice.
