Half of Slovaks consider themselves very careful and plan all their purchases in advance. On the contrary, every seventh Slovak indulges in spontaneous shopping without thinking much about money. This follows from an online survey by the Heureka shopping consultant, which focused on the shopping habits of Slovaks (and Czechs).

Although it might seem that young people are more impulsive when shopping, the opposite is true. Young people in the 18-24 age group define themselves least as spontaneous or carefree shoppers. On the contrary, seniors over 65 enjoy carefree shopping the most.

“Slovaks behave cautiously or prudently when shopping in most cases. However, a surprising finding is that if someone marks themselves as impulsive consumer, it is more often an older person. On the contrary, in the category of young people, only 8% are considered to be such,” said head of analysts Andy Werner from Heureka Group.

Overall, 15% of people consider themselves spontaneous and carefree when shopping. Women are slightly more inclined to this than men. Compared to the neighbors it is Czechs who consider themselves carefree, 40% more than Slovaks, however, overall, they are very similar in their self-assessment of purchasing behavior.

Those who admit to spending more than they have to, so they most often do when spending on food and drinks in the household (19.4%)is in a close relationship clothing, footwear, fashion accessories (19.2%). The third group is surprisingly electronics and household appliances (16%). Compared to Slovaks, Czechs admit spending a little more on unnecessary things. The biggest difference is in games and gaming equipment, but also in streaming and subscription services or electronics and home appliances.

The survey showed differences in what men and women spend more money on than they would like. Women unsurprisingly, they lead in admitting unnecessary expenses for beauty and cosmetics (6.3 times more than men) and for clothes (2.4 times more). On the contrary, men admit them especially when buying electronics (5.4 times more) and even more for streaming and other subscription services (5.5 times more), especially among younger and, paradoxically, also older respondents.

The survey showed that Slovaks feel more guilty after impulse purchases than Czechs. Significantly more Czechs have no regrets after shopping, while more Slovaks always feel guilty about their spending. Specifically, he never feels any remorse 12% of Slovaks, while Czechs are 19%, and at the same time, 7% of Slovaks always feel remorse, while only 5% of Czechs.
