The Republican said the country will always protect American ranchers, ‘who are being blamed for what is being done by mostly foreign-owned packers’
The president of the , , said he has asked the US Department of Justice to launch an investigation into meat packing companies that are increasing the price of beef through illicit collusion, price fixing and price manipulation, in a publication in Truth Social this Friday (6).
The Republican said the U.S. will always protect American ranchers, “who are being blamed for what is being done by mostly foreign-owned meatpackers.” For Trump, the action artificially inflates prices and puts the security of the country’s food supply at risk.
“Action must be taken immediately to protect consumers, combat illegal monopolies, and ensure these corporations are not criminally profiting at the expense of the American people,” he wrote in the post, calling for “swift action” from the DoJ.
Shortly afterwards, in another post on the social network, Trump claimed that “there is something suspicious” about this situation, as cattle prices had dropped “substantially”. “We will discover the truth very quickly. If there is a crime, those responsible will pay a high price!”, he added.
