Ambushes, drones, cutting supply lines: Russian forces are isolating Ukraine’s logistics routes.
The focus of the war in Ukraine in recent days is Pokrovsk.
The Ukrainian city is located at a strategic railway and road crossing point; A capture by Russia would open the way west, where Ukrainian defenses are less fortified.
The Russian army has used tactics to isolate Ukrainian logistics routes: they are setting up ambushes and using attack drones to cut off the supply of supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine – who are trying to resist, despite the situation, admitted Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
More than 300 Russian soldiers will be stationed in Pokrovsk at this time. In just three days, the city experienced 220 attacks.
This is because Pokrovsk is now the “target number 1” for Russia, according to Zelenskyy.
In addition to geographic and strategic issues, the Kremlin wants to conquer the city to promote a propaganda narrative about the alleged imminent capture of the entire Donbas and pressure the West into forcing Ukraine to make concessions, Ukraine’s president claims.
Zelenskyy reinforces that the Russia needs to capture Pokrovsk as quickly as possible to reinforce the narrative that supposedly can conquer the entire Donbas region.
It is of importance, not only military, but also fundamental for “propaganda”. Moscow plans to use the capture of the city as proof of its “successes on the battlefield”, quotes .
“I think this is a factor that can influence both the advancement of sanctions, as its postponement.”
This is because, according to the President of Ukraine, the Russia is “very afraid” of drastic decisions by the USespecially if there is no real success on the battlefield.
If they control Pokrovsk, the Kremlin could “change this narrative” and try to convince Western countries that the Russian army will succeed dominate all of eastern Ukraine – to force the Kiev authorities to “withdraw from Donbas”.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that, however, Russia’s enormous pressure on that city is causing unprecedented losses on the Russian side: Russia’s total losses in October (at least 25 thousand) were the largest since the beginning of , in 2022.
