AIMA creates special channel for temporary protection cases related to the war in Ukraine

This measure aims to allow a more detailed analysis of each case, ensuring effective protection and proportionality in decisions, especially considering the sensitivity of cases involving minors and nationals of Russia and Belarus.

Belarusian opponents and foreign minors who came from Ukraine and are ordered to leave will be able to defend their stay in Portugal more quickly.

Following a the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) announced the creation of a more agile communication channel for citizens who are losing the temporary protection granted since 2022.

In a clarification sent to SIC, AIMA explains that, taking into account the sensitivities regarding minors and nationals of Russia and Belarus, the new channel aims to allow detailed analysis of each case.

Decision is due to the “sensitivity of specific cases”

The measure, explains AIMA in a statement, has to do with the “sensitivity of specific cases” and the fact that some citizens are minors.

“Through this channel it will be possible, more quickly, to submit all allegations so that their processes can be analyzed in detail, with a view to guaranteeing their effective protection, the proportionality of decisions and also the legally provided possibilities for regularization alternatives in national territory”, it reads.

AIMA recalls that in February 2022, when the war in Ukraine began, an online portal was created where citizens who wanted to request temporary protection from the Portuguese State could register.
